Note: Starting salary is £23,800, with a progression pathway to a maximum of £30K. Performance-based raises are given annually. In addition you can expect to earn £2,300 pa from overtime and on-call.

Mitie is currently seeking a full-time Grounds Maintenance Operative to join the team at MOD Corsham in Wiltshire. This role involves carrying out general grounds maintenance tasks and responding to reactive jobs as required. The successful applicant will become part of a small, dedicated team committed to delivering exceptional service to our clients every day. To thrive in this position, you must be reliable, adaptable, and professional, with the ability to prioritise workloads effectively. A strong emphasis is placed on safe working practices and strict adherence to risk assessments at all times.

To be eligible for this role, applicants must provide proof of the right to work in the UK, such as a UK passport or residence permit, and must hold a full UK driver's licence. Successful candidates will also be required to obtain MOD security clearance, which will be funded by Mitie. Please note that spent criminal convictions do not automatically disqualify a candidate from obtaining clearance.

Primary responsibilities for the role include: grass cutting, strimming, leaf blowing and collection, as well as general gardening duties such as planting, weeding, watering, and mulching. You will also be involved in winter road maintenance, including gritting and snow clearance, along with sports pitch marking and maintenance, and hedge cutting. The role may also involve being on-call during winter months. Regular tasks include the day-to-day maintenance of hand and power tools-such as mowers, strimmers, gritters, vehicles, and others-which includes cleaning, sharpening, tightening, and inspections. Additionally, you will support special projects and reactive work involving hard landscaping and tree-related tasks.

Desirable skills and experience include mechanical knowledge and experience in maintaining grounds equipment, as well as a basic understanding of horticulture, including plant identification and care. The ability to work independently and maintain a high standard of work with minimal supervision is also important.

You will have an advantage if you hold a chainsaw maintenance and operator's certificate, have experience in turf maintenance, or possess pesticide spraying qualifications such as PA1 (safe handling and application of pesticides), PA6 (hand-held applicators on land), and/or PA2 (Boom Sprayer).
