Reporting into the Head of Community Partnerships and Sustainability

 

Job Purpose

The Pets at Home Foundation exists to help pets and the people who love them. As a Pets Foundation Manager, you will shape the charity's work in line with the trustees agreed strategic goals and business plans and ensure they are delivered effectively. This broad and varied role combines delivering strategy, leadership, colleague management for a direct team of three and operational delivery.

You will be building the charity's partnerships with local organisations and other charities, working alongside the Head of Community Partnerships and Sustainability to drive long term strategic partnerships with National charities, where there is crossover with Pets at Home.

 

Key responsibilities:

  • Ensure effective governance of the charity, including Company and Charity legal responsibilities
  • Responsible for ensuring that Accounts are lodged with the Charity Commission within the required timescale, writing and developing the charities impact report and accounts on an annual basis.
  • Monitoring and reporting on the charity’s impact and financials on a periodic basis.
  • Maintain awareness of risks and external factors/ environment that effect the organisation
  • Accountability for a budget of approx. £6m
  • Prepare Agendas and take Minutes of the Trustee meetings, arranging meetings and strategy sessions as appropriate.
  • Liaison with the board of trustees, responsible for updating trustees on the activities of the Foundation, including formal meetings and informal updates on a periodic basis
  • Overseeing our in-store adoption centres working alongside Pets at Home’s veterinary services team to ensure that legislation is met and welfare standards maintained across all adoption centres. The management of the adoption centres sits with the veterinary welfare advisor for the Foundation.
  • Management of a direct team of three and the wider team, driving development through the team reviewing performance throughout the year.
  • Working alongside key stakeholders across Pets at Home to help support the ‘Better World Pledge Goals’ whereby the Foundation’s strategy feeds into supporting these.
  • Presenting to trustee boards, external audiences such as conferences, Group Exec, PLC boards as required
  • Working alongside the Fundraising Manager to drive a consistent and sustainable income model for the Foundation.
  • Working alongside the Communications Manager to drive communications to the Pets at Home customers and colleagues

 

Personal attributes and experience:

  • Ability to work with a high degree of autonomy, ability to manage a varied workload and prioritise tasks, work under pressure, multi-task, plan ahead and meet deadlines.
  • Previous experience of budget control and project management
  • Proficient and effective presentation skills / confident, natural public speaker
  • Ability to build and maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders
  • Experience of developing strong external public relationships promoting and representing an organisation
  • A good understanding of the charity and rescue pet sectors, knowledge of common UK pet welfare topics
  • Ability to think creatively to portray positive messages to the widest and/or most relevant audience and diverse teams
  • Extremely accurate attention to detail and exceptional standards of written English and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent skills in Microsoft Office, notably Outlook, Excel and PowerPoint, Excellent, proven copywriting, copy-editing and proofreading skills
