Job Description


Wakefield City Council is seeking an experienced Enhanced Senior Social Worker to join the Multi-Agency Safeguarding Hub (MASH) Team. This role involves working with partner agencies to screen incoming referrals, assess risk, and determine the appropriate level of intervention. The position is full-time (37 hours per week), with office-based working at Wakefield District Headquarters, Havertop Lane, Normanton (WF6 1FD), and the potential for hybrid working following the probationary period. The role offers a competitive pay rate of £35 per hour (umbrella).

Key Responsibilities:

  • Screen and analyse incoming referrals within the MASH, ensuring risk assessments are completed effectively.
  • Work collaboratively with multi-agency professionals, including police, health, and education services, to ensure accurate decision-making.
  • Apply threshold criteria to determine the appropriate level of intervention or service for each referral.
  • Maintain accurate case records and ensure compliance with statutory safeguarding requirements.
  • Provide professional advice and support to colleagues, ensuring best practices in child protection and risk assessment.
  • Contribute to team development, sharing expertise in MASH processes and multi-agency working.

Essential Requirements:

  • Qualified Social Worker with registration under Social Work England.
  • Minimum of 3 years post-qualification experience, including MASH experience.
  • Strong knowledge of safeguarding legislation, child protection procedures, and threshold criteria.
  • Excellent communication, analytical, and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment.
  • Willingness to work full-time (37 hours per week) and be office-based, with potential for hybrid working following probation.
