We’re seeking an experienced and strategic Head of Data to join our Technology Leadership Team and take charge of shaping how data is utilised and managed across the business. Reporting directly to the Technology Director, you’ll lead the way in crafting and executing a data strategy that aligns with our business objectives and drives impactful data solutions. This position blends strategic oversight with hands-on expertise to ensure that our data initiatives deliver real value to the business. 
 
As well as the strategic aspect of the role, you’ll provide leadership and support to a talented team of data engineers and BI analysts, ensuring they have the resources, clear prioritisation, guidance and development opportunities to both succeed and grow in their roles. The role will therefore involve strategic oversight and direction, along with day-to-day leadership and empowerment of the team to deliver data initiatives or projects within the business. 
 
This is an exciting opportunity to have a direct impact on the company’s success during it’s next stage of growth and evolution in energy services and installations along with energy supply. 
 
Key Responsibilities: 
  • Data strategy development: Design and implement a data strategy that supports and drives the company’s business goals and objectives. 
  • Team leadership & development: Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing data team, fostering a culture of performance, growth, and innovation. 
  • Project & workload management: Manage the prioritisation of projects and the management of the team’s work backlog to ensure timely and efficient delivery. 
  • Stakeholder collaboration: Build strong relationships with stakeholders across the business to ensure alignment of priorities, clear expectations, and effective workflow. 
  • Data governance & best practices: Drive data governance best practices, ensuring compliance with relevant frameworks and regulations, either internal or external/industry based. 
  • Data architecture & infrastructure: Oversee the evolution of our data architecture, ensuring it’s scalable, secure, and fit for purpose. 
  • Technology awareness: Stay up to date with emerging data technologies and trends to ensure the business uses the right tools and approaches for success. 
  • Risk management: Proactively identify and mitigate data-related risks to protect the company’s data assets. 
 

What you'll need to succeed

We’re looking for a strategic and hands-on Head of Data who excels at leading teams, driving data strategies, and delivering impactful results. You’ll be excited by the chance to take full ownership of our data strategy, driving its creation, delivery, and communication to make a real impact across the business. 
 
You’ll be someone who is not only technically proficient but also passionate about mentoring and developing high-performing teams to achieve success. If you have a track record of aligning data strategies with business goals, collaborating across departments, and driving efficiency, this could be the role for you.

Essentials: 
  • Proven ability to lead data teams, including hiring, mentoring, and performance management. 
  • Experience developing and implementing data strategies that align with business goals. 
  • Demonstrated ability to work cross-functionally with executives, product teams, and IT. 
  • Expertise in Cloud Data Platform technologies. 
  • Experience with ETL processes, data warehousing, and database management. 
  • Familiarity with Agile or Scrum methodologies. 
 
Desirables: 
  • Experience or familiarity with: 
  • Data Governance 
  • Data Science 
  • Data Architecture 
  • AI / Machine Learning 
  • Certifications in data science, project management (PMP, PRINCE2), or cloud platforms (AWS Certified Data Analytics, Microsoft Azure Data Scientist). 
  • Experience in the energy industry.
