Network Security Engineer – Warwick/ hybrid - £competitive DOE

With the separation from National Grid largely complete, this is an exciting opportunity for Security Engineer (Networks) to join our Product Security team, working with market-leading tools within a Critical National Infrastructure environment.  Joining a great team, this is a long-term opportunity offering growth and development.

About the role:
 
As the Security Engineer for our Networks, you’ll:
 
 
  • Collaborate with network engineering teams to establish secure network configurations, including firewalls, routers, switches, and VPNs.
 
  • Monitor and analyse network traffic patterns to detect malicious activities or potential breaches, leveraging advanced security tools and intrusion detection systems. Understanding of IPS and IDS tooling. 
 
  • Implement and manage network access controls, ensuring only authorised users and devices can access specific network segments. Ensuring compliance to principles of least user privilege.
 
  • Collaborate with IT teams to establish and enforce a rigorous patch management process for network devices.
 
  • Evaluate, recommend, and integrate advanced network security technologies such as AI/ML-driven threat detection and zero-trust network solutions.

  • Configuration and Monitoring of our SASE network, working with our cloud vendors to improve efficiency and compliance.
 
  • Evaluate our remote branch and datacentre security policies, suggest improvements, to build on our robust DiD capabilities.
 
  • Develop and maintain an incident response plan for network-based threats, ensuring timely detection, mitigation, and recovery.
 
About you:
 
You have proven experience in Network Security and good knowledge of endpoint security and application security best practices, as well as cloud security principles in GCP and/or Azure environments.  Experience with programming or scripting languages (e.g., Python, Go, Java) would be highly regarded.
 
Preferred Qualifications:

  • Security+, CEH or AWS Certified Security Specialty certifications are a plus.
  • Experience contributing to open-source projects or security communities.
 

Desirable Experience:

  • Palo Alto, Prisma Access & Global Protect experience
  • Firewall Management with experience of cloud-based network technologies (NSG, VPC, Palo Alto Panorama & SD-Wan)
  • Network Monitoring Tools (Stealthwatch)
