What will the successful candidate be doing:

We’re looking for Riggers to deliver a safe, effective and efficient rigging and lifting operations service at Sellafield Ltd

Responsibilities include:

• Estimate the equipment required to complete the job (eg. Lifting slings, chain blocks etc) by assisting the Team Leader to assess the job to ensure that the correct kit is identified and used to erect the structures required to complete a rigging operation.
• Comply with all legislative, regulatory and company policy standards and procedures to ensure the safety of themselves and others around them during all stages of manual handling and erection.
• Carry out inspections as appropriate at required points in time on rigging structures to ensure they are fit for purpose and safe to use.
• Dismantling of rigging equipment at the end of the job to ensure that the structure is removed safely and effectively.
• Participate in the preparation of Risk Assessments and Lifting Plans by attending relevant stakeholder meetings to share knowledge and expertise.
• Work closely with other trades and disciplines to achieve versatility, flexibility and co-operation towards effective and efficient working and continually strive to reduce costs wherever possible within the full scope of all relevant legislation.
• Actively coach and mentor colleagues and others to assist in knowledge transfer and strengthening of the site rigging capability.
• Work unsupervised and independently or in a small team, using own knowledge, skill and initiative to safely progress work, referring to the Team Leader if necessary to resolve complex situations.
• Utilise networking and training opportunities to keep abreast of improvements in standards, best practices and to embrace the usage of new technologies in areas of scaffolding and work platform erection to improve service provided.

Due to the hazardous nature of this position, those successful have general duties under the Health & Safety laws to take reasonable care of themselves and others who may be affected by what they do, or fail to do at work.

Successful candidates are:

Required to work to the regulations and guidance in:
• The Working at Height Regulations 2005
• The Lifting Operations & Lifting Equipment Regulations 1998 (LOLER)

Personally responsible for ensuring they wear the appropriate PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) – harness, safety helmet, protective footwear.

Expected to work at heights undertaking physically demanding manual handling activities.

Required to be aware of the environment they are undertaking their work in. A Nuclear Licenced Site presents additional hazards to themselves and others.

Required to be competent in the operation of use of moving and positioning of a wide range of lifting equipment.

Required to be confident in the knowledge of their discipline to have a questioning challenging attitude when faced with difficult situations.


The Ideal Candidate:

Essential Skills:
• NVQ Level 3 or equivalent in Rigging.
• Successful completion of a recognised Rigging training programme/Apprenticeship.
• Have and keep up to date (every 5 years) an ACE Card (Assuring Competence in Engineering) or equivalent.
• Demonstrable evidence of working in a rigging environment.
• Demonstrable knowledge of the health & safety regulations and guidance associated with rigging activities.
• Demonstrable evidence of the operation, moving and positioning of a wide range of lifting equipment.

Desirable Skills:
• Demonstrable evidence of working at heights and undertaking physically demanding manual handling activities.
