Multiskilled Engineer

You will be a key member of the Baggage Team responsible for the daily planned and reactive electrical and mechanical maintenance and upkeep of a wide range of equipment automation equipment.

Under the direction of the Engineering Manager, this role will keep the airport systems running at full capacity.

Key accountabilities

  • Maximising the use of existing electrical and mechanical equipment whilst not compromising customer service
  • You will be responsible for Mechanical, Electrical and Controls reactive, corrective, and preventative maintenance across Birmingham Airports Baggage Handling System assets including Conveyors, Carousels, X-ray machines, Curve belt conveyors, Vertical-Sortation Units, Ploughs and Automatic Tag Readers.
  • Provide vital lines of communication between the Baggage Engineering team, Baggage Operations department, and other Airport stakeholders in line with the Airport's defined escalation processes.
  • To carry out electrical maintenance work on high and low voltage electrical systems and associated equipment
  • Carry out general maintenance duties and maintain electrical/mechanical operational equipment.
  • To read and follow engineering drawings and documents in maintenance activities.
  • To carry out conditional monitoring on mechanical plant and electronic/ electrical equipment.
  • Single and 3-phase experience
  • Use internal communications systems to update systems to complete appropriate documentation as required - Computerised Maintenance Management System (CMMS) data input and the provision of written reports (Word and Excel) detailing breakdowns, leading to an active role being taken in their review and analysis.
  • Undertake regular health & safety inspections with the Site Management Team
  • To work efficiently and effectively and identify continuous improvement opportunities.
  • Working as part of an established team, contributing to deliver best working practices and service to our customer base

  • This role will require airside clearance.
  • 5yr checkable reference
  • CRC will be required.

Qualifications/Experience -

  • Electrical NVQ/BTEC/C&G Level 3
  • Minimum NVQ level 3 or equivalent in engineering or electrical
  • 17th/18th Edition desirable
  • Experience of working within a similar role (automated facility, MHE equipment, FMCG etc)
  • Experience of working within a high-pressured environment

Specific Skills/Knowledge Essential Desirable

  • Excellent attention to detail and level of accuracy
  • Flexible approach to working hours.
  • Baggage, MHE or FMCG experience
  • Electrical fault-finding using interrogation of PLCs (Siemens S7)
  • Knowledge of working with system integrated X-ray machines.
  • Knowledge of working with SEW motors (GMU and Movigear PMM).
  • Knowledge of working with drives (Siemens Inverters)
  • Knowledge of electrical installation in an industrial environment.
  • Knowledge of working with Plant level networks (Profibus, ProfiNet and ASi)
